my inbox has been flooded with emails.

from the ap:

NEW YORK - Authorities were increasing mass transit security after word of a credible threat of a bombing on the city's subway system, a congressman said in Washington.

"Obviously, this is a significant threat," said Rep. Peter King (news, bio, voting record), R-N.Y., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

In New York, a law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity in advance of an official announcement, said the threat is "specific to place, time and method."

The official said authorities are especially concerned about bags on the subway, and plan to flood New York's mass transit system with officers.

FBI officials in Washington said they were not aware of any viable threat to New York's subway system.

An estimated 4.5 million passengers ride the New York subway on an average weekday. The system has more than 468 subway stations.

i've been on a walking kick anyway and haven't been on a train since sunday. tonight, after work, i'm walking east to second avenue and then south from 48th street.

would like to get away from hellish midtown asap.
