breaking out the big guns
My parents stepped it up this year for my big 3-0.
Dad and Rachel presented me with my pride and joy, a gorgeous kiwi-green Le Creuset dutch oven...
And Mom and Jim honestly made my dreams come true by purchasing this fantastic tangerine-orange KitchenAid stand mixer...
(My Mom said, "You were either going to get one when you married or turned 30, whichever came first.")
I made dinner for KM and Scarny on Saturday: a seitan and Guinness Irish stew with potatoes and carrots and a loaf of beer bread with raisins and walnuts to sop it all up. KM contributed a delicious salad with radicchio, apples, and poppy seed dressing and Scarny brought over some Killian's Red brew. We ended things with green tea soy ice "cream".
Having the right equipment in the kitchen makes all the difference. If you're reading this, you have a standing invitation for dinner at my place any day of the week.

Congrats on the stand mixer - I am dying with jealousy (although I want a red one)!!
Your mom's comment reminds me (only a little bit) of what my dad said recently - that "since you're in your 30s, and not married, we've decided to give you some money towards a condo."
In other words - "we are giving you your wedding fund, spinster."
I'm looking at the bright side - a bigger down payment. :)
Thanks! I'm loving the color of my mixer -- I wanted everything in tangerine for my kitchen, but I'm glad Dad & Rachel went with the kiwi. It goes really well with all of my orange goods.
(My mom's already basically told me, "We'll help you with the flowers, but the majority of your wedding is on your own, baby girl." I figured as much.)
Condo! Can't wait 'til you get it and I come visit.
who needs wedding registries when you've got your le crueset dutch oven and kitchenaid stand mixer!?!?! if i had those two coveted items, i would have no reason to seek marriage! here's a coo of jealously---cooooo! congratulations on hitting the big time!
OOOOH! mad jealousy from this corner of DC as well! those are gorgeous, gorgeous items. my friend melissa swears by both, and the NYTimes no-knead bread baked in the dutchie, which she outfitted with a stainless knob for more oven compatibility. you'd actually love her blog - http://sweetpeasandsourgrapes.blogspot.com - happy cooking!!! and happy 3-0!!!
Hi ladies!
Yes, I feel very lucky that I acquired these items and think of ways to use them constantly. I'm making some vegan tom yum soup tonight in the Creuset and perhaps some meringues this weekend with the help of the mixer.
Emma, I made the NYT no-knead bread this December ( http://farm1.static.flickr.com/163/333055177_ab66bcab02.jpg ) but can't wait to bake it in the Creuset! (And yes, need the new knob...)
