tell me what to read
i'm heading for kiawah in less than two weeks and, folks, i need a really good beach read. i don't want something that is going to cause me to think. i want easy, breezy, beautiful dumbed-down literature.
should i choose...
something by john grisham? (i actually read "the firm" on another beach vacation and did enjoy it!)
something by jackie collins? (i'm thinking "hollywood wives".)
or should i finally get my mitts on "the da vinci code"?!

Oy. Spare yourself the horror that is the Da Vinci Code. S'awful.
A light beach read is a great thing, but the writing should not make you wretch with its bad-ness.
i need suggestions, al!
Something by Marian Keyes. She is a british writer and is the perfect beach read. I think you would like her books!
i'll look into it, min! thank you!
marian keyes is awesome! someone just gave me the nicole ritchie novel, so i'm looking forward to reading that by a pool at some point.
With the movie coming out, you could read The Devil Wears Prada.
I am a not-so-secret Judith Krantz devotee - her books are packed with clothes and sex.
Helen Fielding's "Cause Celeb" was quite good, too, if you haven't read it. Anna Maxted and Elizabeth Young are pretty read-able in the chick lit genre, too. For some inexlicable reason I prefer my chick lit to be British.
endless love
friday Night Lights...
Jaws...
Their eyes Were Watching God
Lady Chatterly's Lover
Any major Stephen King...The Shining, The Stand, Cujo and Carrie are all good if you haven't read them.
And Jimmy Buffet's A Pirate Looks at 50.
jaws! great suggestion, kb.
i'm thinking no on the chick lit, ladies. i just ain't in that kind of mood. we'll see, though...
...and i'll report back.
