the maiden name
With so many weddings as of late, it got me thinking about the maiden name -- and where I stand.
I've been in the camp of the hyphen, the tack-on (sans hyphen), and dropping my maiden name all together, but interestingly enough, I've never been one to think that I'd ever keep my maiden name.
Most women I know who have recently married have dropped theirs.
I think I'm still partial to the tack-on approach, as there's something so Kennedy-esque about it.
(I suppose it depends upon whether or not I like the sound of my betrothed's last name? Is it as easy as that?)
Maybe this isn't an issue I need to resolve today. I mean, I haven't been on a date in a while.
By the way... congratulations to the happy couple tomorrow!

I found you by hitting the "NEXT BLOG" button. My wife went through the same dilemma. Her last name was much shorter than my last name from 4 letters to 11. Anyways, she uses her maiden as her middle now.
i'm 100% kreeping my name. would be amenable to a hyphen, but would rather not deal with all that name-changing nonsense.
i think it's pretty cool when girls keep their maiden names. then again, if i ever produced any youngsters i think i would definitely want them to have my last name. not sure how to reconcile those two stances.

Perhaps your wife will down with giving your kids your last name? Or you could (ugh) hypenate the kids names. Or make hers the middle name.
Or something.
