it's a beautiful day for a war

Went to a real, live Civil War reenactment today in Monroe, New York -- about 40 miles north of the city.

A.W. and I geeked out on U.S. history and enjoyed getting out of the city with the top down.

Little known fact about me: I used to participate in these as a kid, when my brother played a drummer boy and would drop "dead" within the first two minutes of a battle. My stepfather would work in the infirmary, "sawing" off limbs, and my mom and I would walk the grounds, working on our needlepoint.

Yes, a nerdy family were we.

Anyhow, today we saw the printing press...

And the pottery barn...

And a whole mess o' people who are really into this.

Including us.

Oh, and get this...

...those rebels actually won the thing!
