It's that season again: time to help me decide on my beach read! Hoo-fucking-rah!
Long-time readers may recall that I had many suggestions last year, but chose none of 'em.
Thanks, folks. You really came through for me.
I ended up reading "The DaVinci Code" with no sense of irony whatsoever while sunning myself on Kiawah Island. It was a light, quick read. Easy. Generally entertaining.
This year, I'll be island-hopping in the Caribbean for a week. I depart in eleven days. I want something like last year's read. Maybe something by Scott Turow? Maybe John Grisham! (Perhaps I've got the LSAT on the brain.) Maybe something true crime-ish? (KB, perhaps "The Black Dahlia"?)
Gimme suggestions, punks.
(Yes, that means you.)

"The Big Sleep" by Raymond Chandler. "The Rachel Papers" by Martin Amis.
i'm reading "the post-birthday world" right now. it's pretty good. also "the little lady agency" is pretty good chick lit. ("little lady, big apple" however, is not that great.)
Not a fan of the chick lit, but thanks for the suggestion, Cari. I'm thinking something a little darker, maybe.
Jenglish, I swear I never received a comment. You do not know how to use the Interweb.
"The Post-Birthday World" is kind of dark. it is kind of like that movie "sliding doors" except not happy. it all hinges on whether or not this woman kisses a man she is tempted to cheat on her husband with. in one version she kisses him and things work out one way (but not how you expect) and in the other version things work out the other way (but not how you expect either). its very dense and incredibly well-written - funny, sad and real. even if you dont take it to the beach, you should check it out. also, richard powers' the echo maker is good - won the national book award last year.
